Why Coaching?

Some writers may find they need support getting started on a writing project, developing strategies for writing effectively, or completing a project that is stalled.

As a writing coach, I serve as a guide and cheerleader; provide accountability; offer insight into project structure, writing plans, and timelines; and provide support for a range of writing issues. My individual coaching plans are designed to facilitate the work of writers across a range of experience levels who are developing various scholarly projects, including dissertations, journal manuscripts, book proposals, and books, among others.

Coaching sessions can be scheduled weekly, bimonthly, or monthly depending on the individual project and writer’s needs. With packages that include manuscript review, the goal will be to identify larger issues in the text and to work with the writer to identify strategies for responding to those concerns.

Coaching + Accountability

These packages are ideal for individuals who feel confident about the mechanics of writing but may need support with developing a strong writing practice, overcoming writer’s block, or managing a writing project. Coaching sessions may focus on brainstorming and developing concepts, developing good writing habits, identifying strategies for increasing productivity and fluency, and goal-setting. After a free, initial consultation, we can determine a package and meeting frequency (e.g., weekly, monthly) that is most likely to help you reach your goals.

  • Three-Session Package. Focus on helping writers develop a project structure, writing plans, timelines and respond to other writing concerns. Includes half-hour intake session, three 45-minute coaching sessions, and post-session follow-up. Cost is $375.

  • Six-Session Package. Focus on helping writers develop a project structure, writing plans, timelines and respond to other writing concerns. Includes half-hour intake session, six 45-minute coaching sessions, and post-session follow-up. Cost is $750.

Manuscript Review + Coaching

Typically, writers will bring a specific piece of writing (e.g., a journal article, book chapter, book or dissertation proposal, or a longer manuscript) to the coaching relationship. Coaching sessions might focus on a range of writing issues including but not limited to brainstorming and developing concepts, finetuning English grammar and punctuation, understanding genre conventions, crafting specific elements of a manuscript (e.g., introductions, conclusions, abstracts, literature reviews, method sections, findings, discussions, implications), crafting paragraph transitions, organizing an argument, finding and using sources, overcoming writing blocks, developing your voice as a writer, developing good writing habits, and citing sources with standard styles (e.g., APA, MLA). After a free, initial consultation, we can determine a package and meeting frequency (e.g., weekly, monthly) that is most likely to help you reach your goals.

  • Three-Session Package. Ideal for journal manuscripts, book chapters, or proposals. Includes half-hour intake session, three 45-minute coaching sessions, up to 10 pages of manuscript review per session, and post-session follow-up. Cost is $750.
